Time and Place – poetry by people with dementia

May 18, 2021 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm

An opportunity to hear about a poetry project by people with dementia carried out during the lockdowns of Covid-19.

Time and Place, is a project funded by the University of Kent, with an anthology funded by DEEP – the UK network of dementia voices. It had originally planned to meet in Canterbury city centre each week to create poems with people with dementia, inspired by history and evocative locations. And then came Covid-19. Rather than give up, the group went virtual: the time became now and the place became home. For five weeks, they wrote and shared and revelled in the process of wrestling with words and ideas together. At this event, people with dementia will present a selection of the poems they created. They will discuss the impact of this project with those who supported them. You will also hear Ian McMillan (of Radio 3’s “The Verb” ) perform a specially commissioned poem in response to the poets work.
