At a glance

Since Covid-19 there has been a reduction in the numbers of people being diagnosed with dementia and waiting times have gotten longer. We're working with the NHS to understand what people need, and what support is available.

DCAN are working with NHS England to improve the pre memory assessment process. We are working to understand what is important people who are waiting for a memory assessment for themselves, their families, partner or friends through online focus groups and surveys.

We are also working with professionals to understand what support is available, and we will produce a briefing on what is available, and how well it meets the needs of people waiting for a memory assessment and how it can be accessed.

Get involved

We are currently looking for people to take part in an online survey to help with this project.

If you are waiting for a memory assessment, have recently had a memory assessment, or have been involved in the process for a family member or friend please do complete the survey. Your experiences will help us to make things better.

The survey can be accessed here.

Professionals

If you are a professional and want to share the survey with people you are in contact with you can download a printable flyer with all of the information here to share or email contact@dcan.org.uk to request a paper copy and a stamped addressed envelope to return it to.

We are also working with providers of support to map what support is available to someone while they wait for a memory assessment. We will be creating a website to support people through this time and signpost them to additional levels of support. If you are able to help us please email contact@dcan.org.uk and we can include your organisation on our website, which is due to launch in April.
