At a glance

A recent webinar from the Life Changes Trust examines the impact that being outdoors, and taking part in safe, organised activities, has on people living with dementia and unpaid carers.

The webinar, available on the Life Change Trust website, looks at the findings of an evaluation of six Get Outdoors projects.  The evaluation, by Outside the Box, looks in detail at the six different projects, what kind of activities they undertook, and the impact the projects had on participants. It also looks at learning from the Get Outdoors funding.

The webinar also features short films from two of the projects – Evanton Wood Community Company and The Ecology Centre.  An animation also provides first hand accounts from participants of how taking part in these projects had an enormous benefit on their lives.

Of course due to current restrictions many community based projects have put a pause on activities, or taken them online, whilst awaiting the possibility to resume activities safely.

Until the time that outdoor community projects are able to reopen, the Distancing with Dementia website provides suggestions of creative lockdown or socially distanced activities for people living with dementia.  The DWD site, created by the Dementia Change Action Network, brings together activity ideas for staying active and engaged at home, and outdoors when and where possible.
